Shenzhen is located in the southern coast of China. Neighboring Hong Kong, Shenzhen is in the south of the Tropic of Cancer in east longitude 113°46′~114°37′ and north latitude 22°27′~22°52′. As a coastal city in the south of Guangdong Province, Shenzhen faces the mouth of Pearl River in the eastern bank and Daya Bay and Dapeng Bay in the east, west to Pearl River Estuary and Lingdingyang, separated from Hong Kong by the Shenzhen River in the south, and adjacent to Dongguan and Huizhou in the north. It enjoys broad sea area connecting the South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
深圳市土地总面积为1952.84平方公里，其中，深圳经济特区为395.81平方公里。2007年末常住人口861.55万人，其中户籍人口212.38万人，占常住人口比重24.7%；非户籍人口649.17万人，占比重75.3%。深圳市区距香港港岛仅45分钟车程。目前深圳市有常住外国人18380人，临时居住外国人有414026人次，来自133个国家。2007年经深圳市口岸入境的外国人共400多万人次。深圳住房面积中约有10%为港澳台居民及外籍人士所拥有。
Shenzhen boasts a total land area of 1,952.84 square kilometers, in which Shenzhen Special Economic Zone covers 395.81 square kilometers. By the end of 2007, the permanent population is up to 8,615,500, in which the population registered reaches 2,123,800 and accounts for 24.7% in the permanent population; the non-domicile resident population is up to 6,491,700 and accounts for 24.7% therein. It takes only 45 minutes from Shenzhen city area to Hong Kong. At present, Shenzhen has 18,380 permanent foreign residents and 414,026 temporary foreign residents from 133 countries. Over 4 million foreigners come to Shenzhen in 2007 via the port of entry. As for the housing area of Shenzhen, about 10% is owned by foreigners and residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
